Geneva is a scenic city located at the point of Lake Leman, nestled between the Alps and the Jura mountains. With a population of over 200,000, Geneva is Switzerland’s second-most populous city, after Zürich, and the most populous city of Romandy, the French-speaking part of Switzerland.
Geneva is easily accessible by air. Its airport is only 4 km from the city centre and has non-stop passenger flights scheduled to 146 destinations in 48 countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa. Geneva is an integral part of the Swiss railway system and the airport in Zurich can be reached in 3 hours. High-speed trains connect Geneva with Paris in a little more than 3 hours.
A cosmopolitan centre for diplomacy and finance, Geneva is home to the largest number of international organisations in the world, including the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The city hosts 177 States represented by a Permanent Mission, 39 International Organisations, and 432 Non-governmental Organisations or NGOs.
The city’s official language is French, but German and English are also spoken.

Getting Around
The city of Geneva has an integrated transport network. Everyone staying in approved accommodation in Geneva is entitled to a free transport card. Use as many trams, buses, trains and boats as you like, for the duration of your stay.
